Access for Socially Distanced Classrooms

The pandemic has brought an immense amount of changes to schools and has drastically changed the learning environment. Districts have had to create solutions that they feel will be best to continue educating while also keeping students and faculty as safe as possible.

Schools across the country have implemented a variety of different

strategies, schedules, and safety precautions.

For many districts that have determined a continuation of in-person instruction is best, they have had to deploy various methods to ensure effective social distancing. One way that we have found schools are doing this is by bringing in additional portable classrooms in order to space out the students and limit class sizes.

We recently worked with a large school in southern Florida that filled up their tennis courts with rows of temporary classrooms, all of which needed a means of access in order for the students and faculty to be able to enter and exit. Due to the number of classrooms and their placement, a unique set up was designed and installed.

platforms

A large deck system spanning the length and width of the rows of temporary units was installed using a series of platforms that connected all of the units. The platforms provide access into the elevated entrance of each temporary classroom.

ramps

A couple of ramps were installed at various areas of the platform system to offer students and staff of all abilities access to the expansive deck.

platform and stair systems

A number of individual platform and stair systems were also installed on the outside of the rows to offer another point of access in the back of the classroom.
