Men's Health Month: The Foods You Should Be Eating | EZ-ACCESS

June is National Men’s Health Month and there is no better time than now to change a few things in your daily diet to put your health #1. Whether it’s your snacking or meals that need a change-up, we at EZ-ACCESS have come up with a list of foods you could add to your diet. From nutrients that help ward off prostate cancer to foods that can help the aging male maintain muscle, here is a great starting list to making big health changes:

  1. Eggs – They may be small but they are a nutrient powerhouse! Of course they are packed with protein but they also contain heart healthy omega-3s, vitamin D, choline for the brain, and selenium for the immune system.
  2. Berries – Blackberries, blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, cranberries, and cherries galore!  These antioxidant-rich treats work to keep your brain healthy and taste like a sweet treat.
  3. Brazil Nuts – These little guys help to prevent heart disease and promote prostate health with selenium. Eating just one Brazil nut contains your daily dose of selenium, so no need to eat the whole pack!
  4. Leafy Green Vegetables – Veggies such as broccoli pack a powerful punch when it comes to helping reduce cancer risks.  Each serving of broccoli will help fight prostate and colon cancer. Don’t forget about cabbage, cauliflower, and Brussels sprouts; they do the same thing!
  5. Fish – Omega-3 fatty acids are an easy way to combat inflammation and help fight against arthritis or muscle aches.  The omega-3s come specifically in salmon, rainbow trout, and Atlantic mackerel, but can also be found in flaxseed, walnuts, soy, canola oil, and eggs.
  6. Orange or Red Vegetables – From carrots to red onions, these veggies help protect your skin and fight an enlarged prostate. Other veggies including red bell peppers, carrots, pumpkin, and sweet potatoes can deliver up to 300% of your daily intake of vitamin C.
  7. Soybeans – Prostate health becomes more and more important with age.  Soybeans contain isoflavones which help decrease cholesterol and have been shown to fight prostate cancer. No need to snack on soy nuts, you can get these nutrients other ways such as from soy milk, soy cheese, veggie burgers, tofu, and edamame.
  8. Whole Grains – Whole grains are a great way to keep your stomach full.  They also contain fiber and zinc which can cut down on the risk of heart disease.

With such a huge selection of delicious food, there is no reason to not start eating some of these highly beneficial, healthy foods. Although it is only Men’s Health Month in June, you should take the time to develop healthy eating habits that last all year round.
